Good morning. We have a new batch of 31 “chicks” who we semi-recently moved from the hatch box to the intermediate coop. I have noticed, now that they have room to really spread out, that our new little green queen rooster (who was supposed to be a hen) has seriously curling middle toes. He is about 16 weeks so he is no chick... is it too late to try and correct this? If not, recommendations?

Are you sure he's getting adequate nutrition?? Curled toes can be caused by riboflavin deficiency.

What is being fed on a regular basis including treats and supplements?

All of our chicks and chickens (about 200 to date) are fed Dumour feed for the appropriate age. And all are free range - zero fences. Access to all kinds of natural treats. We don’t supplement with anything additional and this is the first bird we have had in more than 6 years of chicken-rearing with curling middle toes. It’s both feet and only the middle toes. So if it’s a deficiency based on inadequate nutrition then he is the anomaly where it manifested itself. I’m thinking he was born this way and we just didn’t see it until he was in an open space.
Any other ideas out there?
