will it be bad to crowd my quail a little over the winter. i have a 5x6 cage and was wanting to put about 35 to 40 couturnix in it 4 the winter. only about 7 to 10 are males. is this a bad idea or will it be good for heat.

I've done it & they did fine. You never know till you try. I sold mine mainly to people that wanted to eat them. So, I would sell the males. Your ratio sounds good.

Your ratio is great. For heat you can put tarps over the pen so wind doesn't get the birds as well.

Coturnix like small surroundings. It makes them feel safer. As long as you don't see fighting over food or not being able to move to the food, I think you will be fine.
