Well, my batch of jumbo browns are hatching. [IMG] Two out so far, many more pips and at least one zip. I also put three of my own eggs in today, and should have some test eggs coming tomorrow (should have been here today, but who knows).

We put a batch in to stop turning last night - I checked this morning and baby quail were everywhere in the hatching tray. [IMG]

Lol. Yay for coturnix! I just set 29 more eggs (one's a freaking monster egg, TWICE the size of the rest of the jumbo eggs!) from Cherndon, plus two more of my own. So far, there are 7 chicks in the hatcher that seem to be doing well, a few more that I'm not sure about. I had four hatched, and the rest weren't going anywhere, so I helped them out. Three helped birds are doing well, and the rest are still flopped on the wire. Still, better than nothing, that's still three birds that probably wouldn't have made it. Hopefully the rest get up soon too.

Well, there are 12. Two are still flopping around, but the one at least found its feet, just can't stay on them when he wants to move! From this point on, I'll be doing intervention with my hatches. If they don't hatch after so many hours after the first one, then I'm going to slowly help them out. This time it took about 12 hours from start to finish for me to help them, and they all seem to be doing ok. I've always had chicks die if they didn't hatch within 8 hours of the first one, so, now, I'll give them about 10-12 hours, then start helping. 12 instead of the 3 or 4 that hatched on their own, is an acceptable number for me, lol. I had a few bad eggs, then one I accidentally opened, thinking it was a dud, then two that had quit on me during the hatch (never pipped the membrane), but, overall, not too shabby out of 19, or at least better than when I waited a day or two to help chicks out of the eggs. I think my problem is that I get them into the hatcher too late. They go in like 3-4 days before their hatch date, then the turds end up hatching early. The button eggs were put in yesterday, I've been misting everything when I was messing with the coturnix, so that the button eggs wouldn't dry out, so, hopefully I'll have better luck this time.

They're all up and walking, though the last one is still a little wobbly. I pulled it out and syringe "fed" him a few drops of water just to keep him from dehydrating. The rest are eating and drinking, and picking on the serama and silkie mix chick that I put them with, lol.

Sam, I'm going to hold off, at least for now, I think... Lol. Well, if you have any A&M hens that you're willing to part with, I may buy one or two, just to match up with my white roo, instead of having all browns.

Well, all are cruising around just fine now. [IMG] I was planning on raising these guys myself, then butchering some and keeping a few hens and a roo. Well, I'm not sure how many I'm keeping, if any, but someone emailed me wanting to buy some chicks, so I'm going to sell some of them. [IMG]
