I have a new Cuckoo Marans hen whom I believe might have given me this egg or my Rhodie is playing tricks on me. LOL! What do you think?

Very pretty and unusual! I have one NHR that consistently lays speckled eggs, but hers are much darker.

Those speckles aren't the average ones you get on a normal brown egg, but that is an awfully pale egg, then again, hatchery Cuckoos don't lay the darkest. It may be and it might also not be.

Thank you both! The egg is darker than my RIR's eggs, but lighter than my one BCM. I am thinking it might be hers and yes she is a hatchery baby. LOL!!

Looks like some my Cuckoo laid while getting fired up after brooding. She is laying terra cotta color now, a little darker than my production reds.

I was looking at a cuckoo marans at a feed store in the valley recently & the eggs their birds laid looked just like that, some with larger speckles, some with the tiny speckles such as yours. My vote is for the marans and not the RIR.

Well, just caught her in the act and they are! I love them. Admittedly, I wish they were darker like my Black Copper, but still beautiful.

My hatchery Cuckoos' eggs look like that sometimes too.

Yup, I'm guessing it was a hatchery bird.
