ha ha...I know, but I did.

They don't normally venture to close in to this part but on occasion...I'm on the outskirts of town, subdivisions behind me, pasture and feilds, then woods across the road from me.

So I'm out there with my dogs, one's over weight and one's old, deaf, and blind.

I'm tendin to the chickens...later than normal, been laid up with back problems and other health issues and my 2 year old dd was being a bear tonight....at any rate the chickens are getting all wound up cuz their water dish is empty....so I was plugging the bowl in and adding more.

I step outside and I hear the howls and yips of coyote...and REALLY REALLY close too.

So I hurry with what I'm doing and lock it up and get the dogs and the cat inside and scramble to not let the INSIDE black cat out---since he's famous for escaping but then he gets out and runs and gets scared...but in the dark...he's hard to find sometimes.

And then my old dog who was following me is not behind me anymore so I have to go back outside and fetch her...can't call her, wouldn't hear me anyway.

So I guess I am about to find out how "predator" proof my coop is, heh?

I'm kind of nervouse about it. I would say all is good but I am a wee bit concerned about their lil side door. I don't think I have that proofed as it could be.

I had a fix it guy coming here but he called and cancelled for a week. I was going to have him look at it, since dh is in Iraq.

I know this sounds crazy but I was scared like they were gonna come get me or my old dog.

that's right...go ahead and laugh at me now....laugh when I'm down. go ahead.

    me,
    g

    hey purple dude....

I was scared they were gonna knock me over and chew on me and since my back and innards hurt so bad...I'd lay there and not be able to get up.

Think I'll have a baaaaaaaaad dream tonight?

I'm not going back outside tonight for NUTTIN.

I've heard coyotes pretty much every night of my life and it still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

when you are alone and you are feeling vunerable it can be really unnerving to hear those coyotes.
They give off such a mournful if not crazy sound!

Quote:Oh Maplesky7 I wouldn't laugh at you. That is a very unnerving sound..... I'd just had that a few weeks ago here. Our back yard is about a quarter of an acre fenced in & I have 2 golden retrievers & the one was going crazy all day that day. She kept running for the fence barking wild like she was chasing something out of the yard..... now I know they were not on the inside I would have seen digging etc. & there was none. I knew my dog was just picking it all up with her nose & deaf & blind if those coyotes were too close your dogs noses are still working... It's amazing what they know.... Anyway I was going about my chicken coop chores much like you're describing you were doing when all of a sudden there comes this howling that sounds like a huge pack of dogs. I've not *every heard coyotes here* & we've been here for years! it was so loud & ferious my 25 yr. old son came to the door.... & look at me like "what the heck?" mean while the 2 golden retrievers were not asleep but stretched out side by side at the gate to the coop that I was inside & they were relaxed & fine... not so much as a bark or anything out of them They weren't even worried looking..... & yet with *no sound at all* but just their noses earlier during the day they looked like someone was breaking down the fence. They definitely have a better sense of what is coming than we do. [IMG] But I do know that sound is very scary & I was certainly watching the fence the rest of the night....

I don't think coyotes will eat old people when there are so many young tender ones around[IMG][/img]

Heard them last night too in my area...WAY too close for my comfort....100 yards away chasing my horses...needless to say I was out there in bare feet with my 12 gauge...it's kinda tough to shoot them in the dark though .
