    Hi There!

Just got our 1st chicks (ever-Yay!). We got 2 cream legbars and 1 salmon faverolle. We will probably be going back tomorrow for 3 more. Wondering if I should get more of either of those breeds or they also have bantam orpingtons. I've heard a lot of great things about all of the breeds and am wondering what everyone suggests. I like that we know that we for sure have female legbars (what a plus!). We live in the cold and snowy Minnesota on an acreage. We're just looking for friendly, hardy and good egg layers.

Also, it seems as if cream legbars are pretty rare. Is this correct? If so, why are they so rare?

    Thank you

Hi and [IMG] - glad that you have joined us. I'm not an expert on breeds, but I'd say that the greater the variety of breeds that you get, the sooner you will be able to make an informed decision as what suits you and your climate best. Your state thread will also put you in contact with members who can give specific advice.

If you check out the Learning Centre, you'll find a whole host of resources on all things chicken.

Your state thread is worth joining as you will get to know other BYC members in your area ( In fact, the search box should become your best friend [IMG] Lastly but by no means least, the members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC.

    All the best

agree with CTKen, it's like tasting all the candy in a box of mixed chocolates, that's the best way to find your favorites.
