Crevecour x silkie?

I just got a beautiful bantam black Crevecoeur rooster. If I put him with my silkie hens, what would the offspring look like. I assume they would have a Crest? My silkies are buff, white, blue, and splash. Thanks!

Hey there!

From what I know about crests, the trait is autosomal dominant, which means the babies should all have it, but it may not be as pronounced when bred with other breeds. When cross-breeding birds, I've found it very difficult to determine the likelihood of color, especially if the primary and secondary colors differ from one breed to the next. Some colors, as I understand it will always hatch "true." Black x Black, but others may not.

If both parents have a crest, their offspring will have a crest. Black x buff will be black with a lot of buff leakage. Black x white depends on whether your silkie is recessive white or dominant white. If it's recessive white, which is more likely, it depends on what's hidden under the white. Black x blue will give you 50% black offspring and 50% blue. Black x splash will give you all blue offspring.
