My first set of chickens (BB Reds) were killed by a raccoon. I live in a rural area surrounded by corn fields and woods. Last week my husband was standing out by the pen and a mink ran up from the woods. It came all the way to the pen before it saw my husband, then ran off. The pen and coop are now critter proof, but I'am afraid that the chickens could be scared to death. Any pointers on keeping these critters away other than an electric fence?
Try using a radio. I have one on a local talk show, I think it helps. At least with keeping the bears away.
i have a german shepard collie mix thats about 65lbs and keep all strange things out of the yard.shes the chickens guardian
My dog would love to get ahold of my chickens. She got a hold of my mom's and thankfully only got a mouth full of feathers.
