Last night when I went out to lock my chickens in their coop one of my favorite chickens, a silkie mix, was on the ground not in the coop with the others like usual. She couldn't hold her head up and her neck went crooked, I knew it was crookneck, but have never had a chicken with it. So I came in and researched and found the treatment of Alan Stanford that someone had posted on here. It is using prednisone, Vit E, Vit B and Selenium for 2 to 3 weeks and slowly decreasing the dose of the prednisone, because it said the swelling could rebound. I just so happened to have prednisone for my dog, so I figured out the dosage and gave it to her last night and this morning along with vitamin and electrolyte water. She seems like she has almost completely recovered which makes me think she must have hit her head when flying into the coop last night.. so my question is if she has recovered should I continue with 2 weeks of prednisone or already start decreasing the dose? I am going to go to the store today to get the Vit B & E and selenium and give that to her just in case because that's not going to hurt, but I did not want to give her medication if she does not need it. Anyone had this same experience or is very knowledgeable about this?
Thanks!
