    Hello everyone.
I am new to chicken raising, and I have a flock of 9 hens and one rooster. My rooster is a silver laced cochin and my hens are different from him. I recently raised 4 chicks (2 roosters 2 hens) from him and 3 of my hens. ( Red sex link, Black sex link, Sliver laced wyandotte) the chicks are beautiful, they all have one strip of feathers down their leg and are different colors. the only one that looks like both is the rooster who looks like a silver laced. My question is, will the hens egg production be affected by this cross breading?

Greetings from Kansas, Dawg, and [IMG]! Great to have you here. I am certainly not the person to ask, but it would seem to make sense that the production will increase or decrease as the traits of each half of the cross intermix. A great place to ask this question would be in the link below - some true experts hang out there! Good luck to you!

Hi and :welcome from Ohio. So glad to have you aboard. It will depend on which has the dominant gene. Red and black sex links are better layers than the silver laced, so it could decrease egg production but I wouldn't think it would be that much different. Keep good records and let us know how the egg production goes. :thumbsup

Welcome to BYC. Egg production of the pullets may be somewhat less than that of their production bred mothers, but they should have a longer 'production lifespan'.
