Has any one successfully cross bred two breeds so it does something alot better than the breeds are meant to do. i.e. growing really quickly, laying lots of eggs or looks really good?

Here is a quick list of cross breeds that are commonly used:

    Layers
    Black-sexlinked
    Red-sexlinked
    California White
    Cinnamin Queens
    Golden Comets

    Fast Growers:
The list of layers are also meant to grow fast.
Here are some fast meat growers.

    Cornish-Rock cross
    Rangers
    Cornish

When you say looks very good, could mean something to you but not the same to me.

Yep, like bantamina's post shows, commerical industries do it all the time and that is generally what happens when crossing breeds, you get more productive birds than their parents, it's called hybrid vigor.
