Thanks guys - good thing I'm more interested in variety than pedigree because I've obviously got a pen full of crossbreeds. They're lovely little feathered people though.
I may have the answer - this is the hens sold to me as Wheaten and Copper Marans. I lost the dark one but had a few of her eggs in the mix. She seems to have a different comb. If that's right I hope this girl lays the same gorgeous chocolate brown eggs!
I can't see her well enough in the pic to say for sure, but it doesn't look like a rose comb.

. someday I may want quality pure bred birds, but for now I don't want a flock that looks just like my neighbor's, or all my birds look like each other.
So, mystery solved - Houdini's Dad was most likely a lone Golden Laced Wyandotte rooster with a rose-comb. When she crossed with Rowdy the mix of Wyandotte traits turned up our little 'Rose'. Cool!
