Hi everybody! I have a Light Sussex hen and im thinking of getting a White Leghorn to breed with. I'm hoping the male carries the egg-laying ability gene, and will pass this to the offspring. I want a a bird that the roos will be big enough to eat, hens will eat less and lay more eggs than Light Sussex, and still be pretty to look at! Does this sound achievable? [IMG]

I think so but cross breeding can bring some big surprises so wait and see. It should be interesting, I want pics when they're old enough to tell. [IMG] Of course you could just go for an existing breed that already has those capabilities instead...

haha! thanks, LoverofChickens. I already have 2 Brown Shavers and a Light Sussex Hen. Don't actually know why I want to cross breed? I like the thought of a chook eating very little and laying lots of big white eggs like the W-Leghorn, but I also like to eat my Roos....
