I saw a carrion crow coming out of my hen house today with an egg in his claws

(I had recently removed my newly laid ones). On reaching the hen house I realised that he had stolen my 4 rubber eggs! Well it may teach him a lesson at least!,

Magpies stole our wooden eggs. We thought it was funny at the time, but now they steal our real eggs and it isn't so funny anymore.

Our roo used to chase them off, but there are so many of them that he has given up. If we don't collect the eggs a couple of times a day we can always expect to lose some and have a mess to clean up when we do.

Well I'm sure the crows did not enjoy their breakfast very much. Crows around here tend to be a nuisance as we have only buzzards and kites as potential threats and they tend to be relatively shy, but point taken.
It was quite a funny sight, though, to see the crow drop a rubber egg, it bounced , then he retrieved it and flew off with his 'trophy'. Bet that HIS chicks weren't impressed,

We make sure to throw out bird seed and some whole corn kernels for the crows at least once weekly. They do their part in keeping the hawks at a distance. We've never lost a hen to a bird of prey and I think it's been in large part due to the crows. They've never messed with our birds, or been anywhere near the coop though.

Well Ellieroo, Seems like a fair bargain from Mr Crow if you play golf that is. Why do you think he was generous enough to give you 'egg substitutes'?

My husband has always said our eggs looked better so the exchanged was made ?? Its happened enough for us to know it isn't by chance!
