My hen has a crusty comb. It has always had little black dots on it, which I figured is dried blood from being low in the pecking order, and it has always hung to one side. Well, when I pulled it over to the 'dark side of the comb' that never sees the light of the sun, there was a big black patch. not sure what it is. Can anyone tell me? Owl, is a Brown Leghorn Hen about 1 1/2 years old. She free ranges in the back yard with 8 other breeds. They forage and eat pellets. And of course fruit & veggie scraps. (we live in California. Its been 60-80 degrees here, so no chance of frostbite.)
