I recently picked up three cuckoo maran chicks. I was reading around on a site and noticed there are other cuckoo breeds, like orpingtons. Just curious as to what qualifies them as a "cuckoo" breed?

    It's a color, not breed.

Cuckoo is not so parallel barring on a black chicken.

The gene that makes cuckoo and barring is the same gene, the difference in the bars has to do with feather growth, basically.

Put barring on a red duckwing and you have the Crele color.
