Hello everyone. Can you help me with sexing this one? I was told “she” is around 17/18 weeks old. I can’t tell if her tail is indicating pullet or roo… and “her” comb is as bright as our rooster of the same age.
I also have no idea what breed she is. I assume just a mutt of some sort, because I got a group of 5 from a local friend who hatched and sells out of her backyard.
And guesses would be appreciated. Thank you!!!

She's a pullet. Just a few tips for sexing your own babies in the future.
The tail isn't the best way to tell gender. You always want to look at the comb and waddles as those are the best indicator.
A lot of breeds will start to show signs of gender at 5 weeks of age, and Marans, and other large combed breeds will show even sooner at 4 weeks.
When sexing at 4 weeks, Pullets will have thin, small, and pale combs, with almost non-existent waddles. Cockerels will have a larger comb that is deep or light pink depending on breed, with large and matching waddles.

The above are 5 week old bantam Calico Cochins. They aren't showing to many signs yet, but a week later PB's comb became large and red along with his waddles.
Older birds may have larger feet, long and curving sickle feathers, and will get pointed saddle and hackle feathers at 12ish weeks of age. Comb and waddles are still the best way to make a guess.

Update: I’m not sure if you can tell in the photos, but this chicken has started to sprout light tan colored feathers from its back. Are these rooster saddle feathers???
At this point- it’s age is around 19/20 weeks.
I haven’t heard it crow.

At 19/20 weeks the comb and wattles would be much larger on a cockerel and the saddle feathers that I see are wide and rounded. It still looks like a pullet.

The saddle feathers are the ones that drape over the base of the tail. The tan feathers are too far forward to be saddle feathers.

Thank you. I’m also just not sure of this ones age. I was given a guess on the age. But nothing for sure.
