Hello! I have a small flock of seven chickens that will be 8 weeks old tomorrow. I have been watching their tail feather development and noticed two of them have a slight curve to their tail feathers. Their combs aren’t red, and our OE Zelda has always been our fastest maturing chick. I’m new to raising chickens and was just curious if these feathers are saying anything... I sure hope it’s just in my head! I did hear a very odd sound the other morning, like a screechy honk, and our Favaucana Rumi does have a screechy/honky voice.

First, here’s Rumi our Favaucana from MPC.

Next is Zelda, our Olive Egger.

Thank you in advance!

Hello, I have never raised any of the breeds that you have, but I wanted to let you know what a rooster beginning to crow sounds like. I rooster beginning to crow starts with a sort of half crow. They begin then pause then start again. This only happens when the sun comes up, so if your bird is making this sound in the morning it might be a rooster. Also I have hens that make loud squawk/honk sounds, so I would not be too worried. I hope this helps

This certainly was not the case for my little cockerel the first time he crowed. He started crowing at 6 in the evening! We were eating dinner and heard him. It was a half crow, sounded really funny! Now he half crows all the time, doesn't do the full crow yet! All chickens are different I guess. And you have really pretty pullets there!
