Our 5 babies (buff orps) are about 6 weeks old. We've had their run finished for a few weeks now, but the coop has taken longer due to the bad weather here. For the last few weeks we have been putting them in the run during the day, and hauling them back to the brooder at night. One evening, I didn't get out there until just after dark to fetch them. I got down to the run and couldn't find them! They were not in the run, so I was scanning the wood line expecting the worst. No sign of them. The door to the coop was open, but the ramp wasn't up yet. I peeked in the window and didn't see them in the coop. Almost frantic, I opened up the nest box and there were all five chickies curled up sleeping!
They had given up waiting for me, FLOWN up into their coop and put themselves to bed.
