Hi, I'm a new member and I would like to learn about raising chickens in my backyard as pets and to
collect the occasional egg or two. I would like to keep it all organic and I understand they like
to eat insects. I've been reading up about the types that would suit my needs and I like the
sounds of the Buff Orpington breed. I can't seem to find this type of chicken so far here in
Ontario. Does anyone know where I can find this breed of chicken?

Hello and welcome to BYC.

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

:welcome Welcome! BYC is a great resource for help, advice, tips and pretty much anything else you're needing. I'm not familiar with Ontario but in Michigan if I can't locally find a breed I'm looking for I go online and purchase from an online hatchery.
I have 4 Buffs in my flock and they are wonderful birds! Mine tend to stop laying eggs in the winter until sometime in February. They do occasionally go broody but are friendly, docile hens.
Best of luck to you! :frow

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!

Check to see if there is a hatchery that will ship them to you
