i saw a video what shows how people tested eggs in warm water to see if they move , showing that it has a live chcik is inside , im not sure its such a good idea to put any eggs into water, since that can wash off the protective coating on the eggs.

It is common at day 16/17 to see the eggs wiggle as the chics are positioning themselves for hatch around day 17. (Head under wing, beak up) Usually after a day of wiggling you won't see movement again until the pip. (Which often freaks people out.) After positioning they rest. I would not go into lockdown before the average day 18 unless you hear chirping from within the egg or see an external pip before then.

In my opinion, there is no reason to do a water candle or "float test" before an egg is late hatching. Also, the only thing certain with this type of test is if they float AND wiggle they are alive, but you can have a floater that doesn't wiggle that could be alive or a sinker that is still alive. So everything else is a 50/50 anyway. I, personally don't usually recommend the float test.

Thank you, I will anxiously await a chirp or a pip! Yay!
This is my second attempt at incubating; first round went horribly wrong, but I made a bunch of mistakes (looking back now). [IMG]
I've had temp at 99-100 and humidity at about 50%. Planning on bumping it up to 65% for lockdown. [IMG][IMG]
