Ok I have a hen sitting on 20 day old eggs.

Her water leaked and soaked her nest. Luckily, I caught it early and the eggs were not very cold. So, I redid her nest and put her back on it. So, I checked under her on eggs to make sure she wasn't own them...... then I felt something silmy. And a egg had a crack. It smells yucky and oozes greenish stuff.

So, i should throw it away. (I don't want to throw away a chick.)

Earlier last week, an egg broke. I don't know if it exploded or my dog got it.

We did not candle because I didn't know what to look for. However, I did candle earlier today and a few I couldn't tell. But some definitely had a well ll air sack and a mass.

Please tell me what to do:

I hope not all the chicks aren't rotten. We bought them off ebay and seller had great feedback. The eggs were packed great (double box)

I looked up pictures or a pip. And it didn't really look like it.

Do chicks smell when they hatch?

Green means rotten in my experience. It would be best to remove the egg.

Smelly is bad--toss it. But it doesn't mean the others are bad--being wet and cold is not good for them, but often many will survive and you'll only lose a few if it wasn't for very long. So there is definitely hope!! And the air cells with a mass in them sound about right on the candling so... [IMG] [IMG]

Good luck! If they weren't cold for long, then they will probably be fine. Good luck!!!
