Hi all....I bought one of those dinky yellow plastic dome incubators that hold only two eggs and started the process of trying to hatch two of our own eggs.

We set up the dome and played with the aluminum foil and light toill we were happy with the stability of the temp...around 98F. We added water and tried to measure humity...but with limited sucess. So we decided to follow the 'add water' directions.

We have been turning the egss three times a day...all good advice from the forums was follwed (maybe other than buying the dinky two egg incubator)

At day 10 and again at 14 we candled and realized that one egg was not viable. The other seemed like it was well on its way. We replaced the non-viable with a new egg and kept going (its 14 days behind the first)

So its now day 21. We have been watching the first egg for signs...listening for any noise etc.

Have others had any success using the $10 plastic domes incubators?? Have we set oursleves up for disappointment?

People have hatched using that incubaror, but with limited success. 98 degrees is low for incubating. The hatch may be delayed, so you'll just have to wait and see. Good Luck!

Thanks Jose.....maybe there is still hope!

Day 22 rolls on. Maybe we need an extra day or two to finish off the process.

I am very nervous that we will have a sad outcome. These are my babies! [IMG]

Day 23 has started...and I am getting worried. I know my temps have been lower than they should be...so how much longer do I wait before I call it quits?

I have had them hatch at 24 days before. I would still wait anthor 2 days. Then I would say you could probably safely discard it. Hatching vibes coming your way !!!!

Its day 25 [IMG] I guess that its over. Very sad.

I candled the egg and it seems to be full of chicken except for the bubble. I will leave it for a few more days while the other egg continues on it path....but I have grave fears that it will suffer the same fate.

So, lesson is over...harsh but worthwhile. Dinky incubators are not worth the $...I would have been better to build my own so I could get more stable conditions (and it probaby would have been more fun).
