Day 22 - First Pips, baby and now 4 chicks with mamma hen!! Pics!!!

Yay! I have 2 pips in the eggs under my broody hen and lots of peeping!

Of course, it's the one day this week I have to work

Hopefully, when I get home from work tonight there will be a fuzzy butt in the nest!

All 5 eggs are pipped!
Egg #1 had a tiny hole now and I can see a little itty bitty beak.
One other egg has a hole too and I can see a little beak and some wet feathers.
They both look kind of blue!

There are 4 babies now. One egg hasn't done anything since last night.
I thought it had pipped, but I was wrong.

Hope it hatches! It's egg #4.

Aren't they cute!

Two chicks (a black and a white) fell out of the nest this morning.
Good thing the nest is only 3 inches tall and soft!

Wow! These chicks are restless!
They've fallen out of the nest several times.
I don't know if the last egg will have a chance to hatch before Lavender decides to leave the nest or if there's anything even inside

How long should I wait before taking the egg from her?
Today is day 20.

Congrats on the babies! So cute! I love to see broodies with chicks.

Just for my information -- how do you manage to monitor what's going on with a broody? Does she really let you pull out the eggs & check them? Do you have to go at night?
