Can anyone help me figure out the breed?

In the picture you can't see it but they do have fuzzy feathered feet.

Also is this breed one that you can sex based on their coloring?

Thanks for the help

Hi shellybellybug!

It does look like a Marans - not sure whether it's Black Copper or Cuckoo colored, though. Do any have white/cream on top of their heads?

I think Cuckoo Marans at least can be relatively well sexed by color - I'm not exactly sure how, since I haven't had the breed, but I think the darker ones (with less white on heads) might be pullets? I'm not positive though, so wait for a second opinion!

I think you might be right! I was first thinking Braham but now looking at the Maran eggs those looked close to what they hatched out of!

Any tips on sexing them sooner than later?

Thanks so much for the reply

No cream on the heads, just chest, tail, and wings... Thanks for the tip... I will have to do some research now that we have a breed!

Thanks so much.

Probably a Black Copper Marans, then. Cuckoo Marans I think usually have more white on the heads.

Hmm. If they are Copper Marans, then I don't think you'll be able to tell for a few weeks at least. The males will get bigger and redder/pinker combs and wattles quicker than the females (like one of my 3.5-week-old sexed "pullets" is getting right now

). I think also, if they are Copper Marans, your males will grow more red feathers on their heads and backs than the females will.
