We have a 12' X 12' area for our hens that is enclosed with regular wire fencing--2" X 4" mesh. They are in a coop protected by chicken wire when we are not there and at night. Normally coons and possum only come out at night (or so I believe) so we would like to let them in the larger run all the time even when we are gone. Not concerned about dogs but wondered what predators in your experience could get thru the mesh. I was concerned about weasels but we are in South Carolina and folks say there are none around. Thanks!!

The chicken wire isn't protecting them any better than the 2x4. Chicken wire is really only good for, well, chickens. It doesn't keep predators out so it really wouldn't be much added risk to just let them out in the bigger run.
