Dead Chicken Mystery

Came out this morning to one dead chicken (out of two). She was totally fine last night. This morning, she had a little bit of blood on the side of her head and was discovered behind her roosting pole, but that was it. No signs of struggle, no signs of predator, no other marks or missing feathers strewn about, and no squawking last night. Any ideas? Her birthday was 2/15/10, so she was, literally, still a spring chicken.

Sad.

Could she have fallen off the roost, or get pecked (really hard) by the other chicken? I'm sorry. It's especially hard when you don't know what happened.

The roost is only about a foot off the ground, and my girls haven't ever had a problem with each other before. Maybe the other one pecked her; I just don't know.
