So I went out to check on the chickens this morning and I found one dead on the ground? I think she might have been the one trying to brood the last few weeks. Every night I pull her out of the box put her back on the floor, She eats and then trys to get back into the box but I lock the box down so she cant get in. I go down a couple hours after the lights go out and put her up on the roost and some times she jumps back down in the middle of the night. The only thing that was different last night is that I changed the shavings and she seemed to be eating the sand in the dust box?
Is it possible that she didnt eat and was on the ground all night and died from the cold? it was only -3C last night. I know she doesn't eat all day because she stays in the box trying to brood.
How long does it take for an impacted crop to be an issue and how can you tell it has hapend? all the chickens seem to be trying to eat the shavings this morning and I cant stop it.
