We woke up this morning to our 4 year old road island red dead in the run. She seemed fine yesterday but this morning was dead with what looked like her insides had come out of her bottom. We are new to raising chickens and I have no ideas what could have caused this or if our other hens could get what caused this. Hoping for some insight from the forum. Thx!

It could have been an Opossum. I red that they will sometimes rip out chickens intestines and insides. Do you see any foot prints near your coop, or any way it could have gotten in? I'm really sorry about your chicken.[IMG]

Thank you for your reply. No it was not a predator, she was safe in the run under our coop. I was wondering if it was egg binding, do you know if that could be a cause? Thx again!
