I went into the coop this morning & my BO roo was dead. Flat on his back under the roost. His face, comb, & wattles were purple. Yesterday he was the picture of health, & being his normal big bad self. I wonder what happened? Any guesses? He was only 2 or 3 years old.

Seems like roosters of that size, especially, are prone to sudden heart attacks. Did you notice any purplish cast to his comb and wattles before this? If so, could be his heart just quit working.

I'm sorry you lost your roo. I know how attached I am to mine and I would be devastated if anything happened to him. [IMG]

Purplish cast sort of indicates a heart attack. I would guess he's been very busy lately.

Quote:Yes he was.. He was quite the ladies man. I am sorry to lose him. He was a beautiful bird. But now, maybe my hens can grow some of their feathers back before fall. And the other rooster can come out of the coop during the day. Mac kept him in solitary confinement most of the time. We were just discussing yesterday which one of them was gonna have to find a new home. One less thing to worry about now, I guess.

Oh, & my husband weighed him before he disposed of him. 15 pounds. BIG bird.
