I posted a thread a couple of days ago about my SS bantam having a bubbly eye. I waited to see if she would get better on her own as it was suggested as it might have been from the cold. It is all cleared up as of today, but now another of my chickens has it. My almost 4 year old SLW has rattling breathing, (she sounds like a 3 year old with a runny nose) so I'm wondering if it is CRD or Mycoplasmosis. (Are they one and the same or are they different?). I've done some research and this is what I have concluded: If a chicken has CRD they are carriers for life so some people cull the sick chickens. However, healthy chickens can recover on their own. (Do they become immune?) You can treat with antibiotics (Tylon 50 seems common) but expect relapses, especially in stressful situations and the winter. Correct me if I'm wrong! I have a couple question too... What is the fatality rate? Or does it depend on the health of the chicken/flock? Can you eat the sick chickens eggs? (If you don't treat them with any antibiotics.) How can I help them through it without antibiotics? (I'm thinking giving them some immune-boosters like ACV and garlic might help.) Thank you for any advice!!
