Is this an okay brooder?? mine before was definitely too small. I have had two chicks die and have a bad feeling that they got overheated. I DO NOT want to lose anymore!! It is devestating ! :hit[IMG]

It will be fine for now. By the time they are three weeks old it will probably be too small. And might want to switch that heat bulb to a regular bulb. Heat lamp bulbs tend to make those high sided plastic storage tubs into ovens.

What bulb is a regular bulb? Will it be enough heat for them?

Being a bit too cool is far better than being overheated. If they get a bit cool, they can just snuggle together more.

If you find a glass aquarium tank, that may work. It retains the heat really well on the warm side, and has a very cool side on the other end. My brooder is much smaller than yours, so don't worry. Maybe you could switch to a dog kennel once they are older.

I just spoke to a man at our feed store, he's been raising chicks for years, and he showed me this diagram. So I changed my brooder to look more like this: [IMG][/IMG]

I started with that , but as junebuggena said in a few short weeks they'll need more room, might even be sitting on the sides [IMG][IMG],

I moved mine to a nylon playpen, but I've seen people use doggie play pens , the hexagon ones look good lots of mesh and floor space , should be easy to clean also

    Have fun[IMG][IMG]
