Hi. I am new to site.
I am hoping for help. A 5 week old chick was grabbed by cat-paw not bitten. Rescued today and injury was 3 days ago and betadine was used. I am thinking this may be a degloving. Is this a lost cause or vet intervention will help? She eats/drinks and chirpy. Thx
The first pic is the original injury and the second is today a few days later.

Sorry about your chick. I think you are right about this being a loss of the skin from the upper leg. I haven’t dealt with this before. Perhaps you could send a picture or take one in to your vet. Finding a vet who can treat chickens is harder in some areas. I would keep the leg moist with plain antibiotic ountment. Chlorhexidene 2% is very good, and some use Vetericyn wound spray for cleaning. I am going to tag @azygous in case she has any suggestions.

It appears the leg may be in the process of detaching, meaning it looks like the chick may lose the leg.

If you have the means and have access to a vet that will treat chickens, it would definitely be worth it to have them look at the chick.

Wound care would involve daily soakings and keeping the raw wounded areas moist with wound ointment. I am guessing there's a 50% chance of saving the leg with wound care.
