Well, two days after Jake, my Delaware cockerel, went to Freezer Camp, Kira decided it was time to produce her very first egg. Cassidy should be right behind her. Then on to getting another man hatched for those pretty girls. Just after laying this egg, Kira went outside and tried to dustbathe in black, sticky mud. That was the dirtiest chicken I've ever seen, LOL!

***P.S. It wasn't fertile-guess Jake hadnt perfected his technique yet.

Wonderful!!! Lets see now just to get you a good rooster and I can have delaware eggs some day.
My brahmas did the dusting too today. there was only one spot dry mixed with leaves in the run next to the coop but oh were they ever red with clay. Jean

It never gets old, this new layer's first egg excitement. I hope to build a quality breeding flock of Dels in 2009, so guess I'm on the way now.
