I think I've figured out that these are Delawares. Am I right? Can you tell if they are roos or hens? They are 6 wks old.

Thanks!

Yes, both pullets, it looks like to me. If their tails were barred, they'd be cockerels. Delaware pullets usually have black tail feathers, while the cockerels have barred tailfeathers like a Barred Rock.

Mine are awesome, too. The ones I had last year were absolutely terrible-mean and nasty! I sold them all. The ones I have now are from a breeder, not hatchery stock, and they are so different from those evil chicks. I'm keeping a cockerel and the two pullets I have for breeding, I'm so impressed. Here's my 10 week old Kira:

I have to admit that mine are from Cackle, but they are just so friendly! I really had no place in my area to get chicks, so that's where I ordered from. So far, so good! All healthy and growing. I set aside everyday to spend hanging out with them in hopes that they'll be friendly.

The Delawares were the first to decide that my head is the best place to view the world.

I don't know if its because they're from a hatchery or not, but your Kira looks like its comb is pinker than mine--Happy and Helen look a little yellower.

I do have 2 others that I'm going to check tonight. They have thicker legs and combs are a bit bigger. I'm going to see if they have that barring or not.

Just to throw fuel on the fire --

A breeder in central KY is selling an entire flock of "SQ" Delawares right now. If anyone is interested, check the Rare Chicken yahoogroups list.

Those are two pretty little pullets you've got there.

I had to laugh when you said they like the view from your head. That seems to be mine's favorite spot too.
