Hi All,

Can't believe I'm posting another query in EDIC so quickly. I have an approximately 16 week old Cream Legbar. One of our chickens suddenly became lethargic and quiet (she just stands in one spot and doesn't move much). She started getting hassled by the other chickens so I have removed her into the sick bay. I've just renovated the sick bay so moved her into the NEW sick bay and realised that she has diarrhoea. It looks like the chicken feed she is having is literally barely digested - it's still recognisably chicken crumble but wet. I had a look at her vent and the feathers surrounding are wet but it's otherwise clean. She has also lost weight.

I've been giving her water with ACV and normal food.

Any tips? I don't know where to begin. Again, my chickens have all been really healthy up until recently when I added some newbies to the flock - including her. I've had her for about a month and she's been sick for about a week I think. I had been away so I can't be 100% sure.

If you've added new chickens to the flock, there is a fairly good chance she has coccidiosis. It will not hurt her or the flock to just start treatment.
I would drench her directly in her beak (the right side) with 1/2 cc of 9.6% Corid once per day for three days. Additionally, all the water for her and the rest of the flock should be treated with 2 tsp per gallon of water. Make a fresh solution daily. Do this for 5 consecutive days.
Can you post pictures of her and her poop?

Ah thank you. I do have stuff for that, I’ll do that now.

She looks like she’s constantly falling asleep.

I’ve added some photos of her and her poop below.

Thank you!

I hope it helps. That last picture shows the puffed up, wings down, head down, closed eyed stance of a bird with coccidiosis.
I had an EE that showed up looking just like yours about 1 month after introducing 3 new pullets. I drenched her the day I saw it. The next day, you'd never have known she was sick. But I kept up the full treatment I recommended to you and no one else ever showed symptoms.
I would also give her a few drops of Nutri-drench directly in her beak. Can you offer her a spoon full of yogurt (preferably Greek) and a scrambled egg? If she likes that, I'd feed her that to her daily along with her complete ration for a while for improved easy to digest nutrition. Because she is outside she should be getting enough grit. But do you offer any?
Where are you located in the world?
I would also recommend getting a fecal float done.
