I lost 3 more babies ...2 this morning and 1 last night!! last couple of days I've spent checking their butts cleaned them all with olive oil and warm cloth. added electrolytes to the water and put them in the bigger brooder. it's devastating....after I tried to save one this morning to no avail, I went to work then my daughter called me and said we lost another one. So I had her do the 4 Tbsp of Apple cider vinegar in their gallon waterer and came home tonight ....so far no more losses!! I'm really distressed over it because I thought I had been watching them so carefully and not stressing them but I don't know..

...I feel so bad..poor little things.

Anyway I would like to give my daughter credit for taking care of them today, she's 14 and so amazing!! she mixed the ACV and kept watch over them!! Alex you are a gem! but you still gotta do homework!! LOL

sorry that is really rough. You might also think about if they are too warm. If they are too warm they will drink more and then have runny poos which causes all the back up. ACV and maybe a little more space between them and the heat source.

Anyone do sand in their coop? DH and I just did a major coop clean out and replaced the floor and changed the bedding to sand. I am hoping it works like cat litter and i can go out and just scoop poop out rather than have to change it all out. Got the construction type sand from HomeDepot and it was pretty cheap at like $3 for a 70lb bag. I have a big coop and it took a lot of bags and I think I still want some more but I won't have to clean it all out everytime I clean. Just sift poop and add another bag when the level starts looking low.

It works really well in my head. We will see how it works in real life.

Oh and the eggs in my bator are still eggs but one day closer to being chicks.

Thank you chicksooner and cochins!! just wasn't prepared to lose them after they all arrived alive...I did the water/sugar ..then electrolytes...then ACV...I'm going to get some nutri drench next....then if the ones I have are female and still alive I will breed my own and go back to hatching my own eggs!! I've had better experience hatching! lol..thanks to CHICK DR. sally sunshine

As soon as water goes in the brooder the water has ACV in it. It's very good even for other things. Just all around good stuff. Even my big chickens get that in there water once a month.

Hi all! Sally insisted that I introduce myself. I have been reading for the last couple weeks and am in lockdown for my very first hatch. I went into lockdown at 8pm Thursday night. I started with 16 eggs at setting, and 13 made it to lockdown. 2 were infertile and one died at 7 or 8 days. I have 5 D'Uccles, 1 Blue Ameraucana, 1 Penedesenca , and 6 black Austrolorp. Current temp is 102 degrees (LG still air bator) and humidity at 65%. Sitting on my hands...talking to the eggs, trying to convince them to move around and cheep in their shells. This is really going to try my patience!!

Nice to meet all of you!!

It's hard, but stay the line. LOL
