Bought a package of what was advertised a “Barred Rock Chicks” in March from local Tractor Supply Company. 100% they are not Barred Rock Chicks. They also appear to be possibly a mix of black sex link Barred Rock/Rhode Island Red crosses. Also seem to be mostly roosters? Like 8 of them. A neighbouring farmer bought 50 from them. 2 died & 47 WERE ROOSTERS. It seems they’re sexing the chicks & sending roosters ok purpose. Ours mostly looked like pullets (save 1 we debated) & all black from the beginning. Now looking very different & hoping for some help figuring out what they are. Have 10, plus side is they have all made it to 18 wks.
This is all 1 chicken from different angles. Suspect it’s 1 of the roosters.

Pictures of the other 2 I strongly suspect are roosters. The 1st shown in the first set of images was the runt of the flock, though very adventurous, is always the first to seek out food, & take a curious pecks from day 1. It also developed the largest comb of all at 13 weeks, & was the first to show some spurs. The lighter coloured of the 2 we suspected might be Male from early on bc as a chick it had a lighter head & was 1 of the most adventurous. Has a small comb but will posture as if ready to fight with several of the other chickens & given how lightly coloured it is & the saddle feather I think I’m seeing develop, I’m guessing it may be a cockerel?

It is too bad that 47 of those TSC chicks were roosters! It does make one think that they are purposely sending out roos...or maybe it is a very unlikely coincidence?
It was the 2nd person we had heard from having trouble w/this particular Tractor Supply. It seems they regularly send out batches of all roosters
