different breeds lay earlier than others?

From what I have learned on BYC I can expect my Gold Comets from TSC to start laying around 18 weeks. We are interested in maybe a couple of Jersey Giants. I have read thjat they continue to grow/fill out till 18 months. Do they tend to lay later as well?
