DIG THIS: NEW AND SERIOUS GARDENS AT WHITE HOUSE

Do you think they will be using rain barrels to water the garden with?

I love the idea that the white house is starting a garden. Regardles of my political views, I think this is one good example our administration is setting.

Read the whole thing, Parag 13 and 14 exempt farms from registering.

Now the Pres can't grow a garden? I hate Bush but I wouldn't have criticized a garden. Maybe Obama is setting an example. During WWII they had victory gardens. Same concept maybe.

HIS govt will get their way. Just like Bush always got his way till his rubber stamp Congress got voted out.

By the way if you look at your post you will note that the BILL was originated in March 2008. That was before HIS government.

Instead of complaining write your congressman and demand a well defined exemption for small farms and hobby farms. It's a lot more effective than complaining. His govt knows how to read and might just read your request.

Yes, you need to watch out for bills, but its only a bill!!!

There have been bills to do really stupid stuff (she says editing carefully) that never made it out of committee. first, don't freak! second read the whole thing not what some political site tells you.

third contact the author or your own representative. If you don't like it FIX IT!

Law is like sausage - sometimes you don';t want to see how it gets made!!

But, if you are going to be hurt by a BILL fix it before it becomes a law.

That sucker BTW ain't never gonna see the light of day. IMHO

I think a white house garden is a great idea!

ohhh definatly they should get chickens! Return the sheep to the white house lawn...yes sheep. I don't remember what adminstration had sheep but they were there to "mow" the lawn. How about solar panels on the white house?

I don't think I'd want them to spend the kind of money it would cost for the White House to go solar. My home would cost about 50k and it is no where near the size of the White House. If it weren't so expensive more people would go solar.

But check this out. It's a list of all the past presidents pets http://www.factmonster.com/ipka/A0768598.html
A few chickens would really love the garden leftovers.

Second that!! The White House has gardeners... has ALWAYS had gardeners and landscapers... it doesn't make them evil for wanting a garden that grows more than grass so the kitchen has fresh veggies (it said the cooks were excited about it, can't say I blame them!) and so even if the girls or Mrs. O doesn't get out there every day, they still have clear evidence of where the fresh veggies come from.

It's a good thing.. is it a publicity stunt? Perhaps it is in a way. Was it a publicity stunt first, or a real desire to do something decent that turned into one? We don't know! But either way, is that a bad thing? Won't the kids both the Obama girls and the grade schoolers who have said they want to help still get good out of it? Why is it a bad thing?

That's an extra one for anyone who wants to do nothing but tear at things and turn a blind eye to the good that is still to be found in this world.

[edit] ya gotta wonder how much time the 5th graders will spend digging, yeah, they'll probably get all muddy, shovel a bit, then get some milk and snacks and the landscapers will go back and re-do a lot of it, but they'll still get value from the effort, and they'll still feel they're contributing. I still applaud it!!!
