I purchased two goslings on April 8 of this year without an idea of what sex or even what breed until they got older. They turned out to be an African and a production Toulouse. Well, today I got a surprise. The African (Ee'qua) climbed on top of the Toulouse (Louis -- Louise?) and clumsily mated. After thinking about Ee'qua's displays, this isn't such a surprise. He's really snotty towards the roosters in the pen next to him. Even so, I'm delighted I have a mated pair. Now, my question is: can they produce offspring? Are geese broody or am I going to have to incubate the eggs? When will Louise start laying eggs? I'm not really concerned about having pure Toulouse or pure Africans. Their goslings will be cool and probably be used for meat and eggs down the road.
