Hi! I got a big order of 15 chicks in various breeds 2 weeks ago. It’s been fun and challenging trying to figure out which one is which! I ordered 2 black copper marans, but I have 3 almost identical all black chicks. I’ve never had this breed before. What should I look for in them as they grow? I think the 3rd should be either an olive egger or Americana- based on what I think all the others are from my order. Or it’s possible they gave me 3 BCMs by mistake. Thanks!!

That does look like 3 marans, but it's also possible that one of them is an olive egger because those often have one BCM parent that causes them to look similar. If I had to guess which one was the OE, I would say #3 because I think I see the muffs it would get from the other easter egger or ameraucana parent. I guess just wait and see until they get older.

Thanks! I’ll keep looking for muffs or other distinguishing features. We have a 1yo OE but she is all gray.

will be interesting to see when they get bigger. My OE looks very similar to these ones. Well 1 of them. My other OE has more black not the white chest. and 1 I picked up for someone else is all black with a white dot on its head.
Yea- im not patient! We have a 1y OE but she is gray with a brownish head.
