Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

What kind of “food” should a dog eat? Im curious what others say.

I have 4 dogs, including two mastiff breeds.
In my opinion if someone had the money to (most likely a lot of extra money), I would say that they should feed their dogs raw meat. If not then the dog food that has the most meat and least grain and other stuff.

Are Dachshund good ratters?
Are there any breeds of spitz which are ratters?
I tried looking up good dogs for ratting but I don’t really trust the Internet, my mother and I don’t like Jack Russells but we do love Dachshund and they appeared on some list so I was wondering if they where any good for ratting, I also love most spitz breeds we have some sort of spitz mix who loves hunting rats and mice but she is not very good at it. I am open to any suggestions of ratter breeds as long as they aren’t Jack Russells.

And I was thinking about making a thread for guessing what breeds my dog could be a mix of for fun, anyone think I should do it?

Grain is actually good for dogs since they are omnivores. 😊 I used to think this same thing too and fed only grain free etc. but I’ve been doing a lot of reading since it came out about the dcm stuff. I will say though that if/when I get the next dog, I will probably feed them raw but it’s just so expensive! 😭

Also you did say least not free so that’s good cause I do actually look for the same even if I get the ones with grains. Meats or meals first and identifiable meats, etc. like for example some will just say “meat meal” or whatever and not least the specific animal like chicken, beef, etc. so it could be anything!! And of course I don’t like dyes etc.

You should get a Schipperke!! They’re great little dogs and were bred as ratters (and watchdogs) for barges! 😁 and they’re technically a spitz!

Or alternatively.... a rat terrier 😉😂 they’re great dogs and one of the least “terrier like” of the terriers so you may like them better than a JRT hahah real smart and cute though.

They’re one of my favorites haha and totally understandable! Although tbh they’re less terrier like and more like the other small breeds hahah you might like them better but totally understandable if not! That picture was also kinda a weird looking one 😂 they come in all different colors and sizes. You might like the Decker ones better. They’re bigger. Here’s some more info on the rat terrier though
