My favorite "gal" has started crowing at about 7am when she wants out of the coop. My city doesn't allow roosters...she's 9 weeks old and VERY developed. Cuckoo Maran.

I love her...she walks around like a hen and isn't aggressive towards anything. She was also from a hatchery.

The best I can tell from the pics is a cockerel.

I'm going with cockerel. 9 weeks is way to early to have a comb and wattles that read and big for a hen.

From what I've read, crowing definitely indicates a rooster/cockerel. That paired with the large, red comb and wattles. I've also read that with barred rocks and cuckoo marans roosters are a lot lighter in color between their barring. Females will be darker. Good luck! I've got young barred rocks and cuckoo marans and can't even tell the difference yet [IMG]

Definetly a cockeral. My hens are 16 weeks and are barley getting ridden combs and wattles.

Would it be easy for me to check the vent at this point?
