I have a room which I keep my chickens in I don't like to let them out since cats will eat them but I do let them out a few hours a week but I stay watching them

In my experience cats are not a threat to a chicken once it is fully feathered. My current cats will kill small chicks but are a little afraid of the birds that are fully feathered. My chickens free range full time and the cats are often in the chicken yard with them - they keeps their distance and will run if a bird runs towards them.

But most of the cats in my area are wild cats and when I let my chickens out they sit there watching them and some of my chickens are quite small

My chickens have fended off a handful of feral cats. Then again my cats have also fended them off too...best wishes
