Do I need to worry about mole/vole Burrowers?

Greetings from Reno, NV! Have a solid coop and pen, with mesh and wire all around to prevent diggers. Came out today and traced a mole or vole Trail Burrowing right under all that "security" to get into the pen. Like a prisoner trying to get INTO prison! Do I need to be worried for my ladies? The hole that made it into the pain could not have been more than 2 in 3 in maybe in diameter. So thinking it was more like a mole. What are they after--the food?

I know nothing about moles.

We have voles that tunnel all over tarnation.

The problem with vole tunnels, is that they are large enough for little weasels to get into your coop. A single tiny short tailed weasel (no fatter around than a vole) can kill an entire flock.

So yes, I would dig a trench around the coop and run, and put in wire, then back fill the hole.
