I meant do they look ready to lay??
Red? As in the color red? I can see the BR has a red face which can indicate nearing laying age. My Dominique hens have had the bright red face for over a month now. I wouldn't mind if they waited until spring to lay.
They don't look ready when compared to how my BA's looked when they started to lay, but that could be the difference from breed to breed.
Here's two of mine in May this year at point of lay "between 19 - 24 weeks" according to the supplier:
Here's a pic taken a month later (in June) a week after the first girl started laying (and surprisingly it was NOT the one with the largest comb in that pic, but the blurry one on the right):
The main two in the pic above started laying about a 2 - 3 weeks after that pic was taken.
the one to the far left will be first! I would bet on it! But the other two look like they will be a couple of weeks yet...
How old are they?

Anyways whats with that one-legged chicken yer gots there? a one legged dom!
Two weeks. Baby pullet eggs. Congrats!!!!
Not quite - couple of weeks to go. Shortening day length may push the initiation of egg laying even further off.
Hmmm.THanks for all your imput....
Do not look quite ready.. but that does look like a dominque rather than a barred rock.
