Do pullets and cockerels fight each other?

I've got a silkie (pullet?) and a welsummer cockerel and they are fighting at 7 weeks of age. Does this mean my silkie is male?

No, I had an EE roo that always fought with the barred rock girls and they would just fight until the were 2 months old... then They all sorted out the pecking order

My top male silkie cockerel got in a fight with the standard EE girl who was top hen about a month ago. He was 5 months and she was 6 months. He finally gave ground and it stopped immediately. He has now established he's above her in the pecking order and there is no more fighting. He wanted to mate with her and she was having none of it then. Now that he has proven himself, he's good.
