Do silkies taste GOOD?

Someone just has to say it, so it may as well be me.

They taste just like chicken...

Silkies taste no different than other chickens. The black pigment is in their connective tissue and some paper awhle ago measured the content of some protein but I don't remember if it had any type of real signifigance.

It's an asian delicacy probably just because it is different... just like how my mom insists hens taste better than roosters... they dont, and if i didn't tell her they were roos or hens, she couldn't tell either. It's often used in medicinal soups and such so it's probably the combination of all the herbs put in with the chicken that makes it part of the delicacy.

Silkiechicken guided me on my path to silkie eating enlightenment.

We ate two roos and they were very good. It's hard to describe the taste if
you are used to store bought chicken. They aren't gamey at all and I would not
call them stringy. They have a tasteless black layer on the meat. If you
are able to get over the "I'm eating a silkie" mentality then you will enjoy them.
We are currently going through 15 extra Leghorn roos. They silkies were smaller,
but meatier than the Leghorns. I'd rather silkie soup than leghorn soup any day.

I'll post pics if you are serious about this.

Oh, check out my avatar. Yummm
