Hello everyone, I'm new here and pretty new to having chickens as well. These Silke chicks are 3 weeks old and when I got them I didn't know that they came in 'bearded' and 'non' bearded. What do you think these are? The silkies are the 2 on the left and the little black one. Thanks! [IMG]

Welcome to Backyard chickens Laurelannu! I hope you have as much fun on this site as I have. You have some cuties on you hands wether they are bearded or not! I can not tell the difference, I would post them in the page that CTKen suggested!

I don't know how early beards show up on silkies. But as of your photo they appear to be beardless. I cannot see the dark ones head or face well enough to tell.

Welcome to BYC! It's great to have you.

Your chicks are non-bearded hatchery quality.

Dark one *could be* bearded, not clean face pic to see it... white ones are definitely not bearded...

The two pale ones are unbearded, and the black - because of the poor angle for assessment - *may* be bearded, but you'd need to post a better picture inclusive of its face to tell for certain.

The beard (if Bearded) is present and easily noted on the chicks from hatching, and looks like an adorable, fluffy little double chin. Their cheeks are typically notably fluffy, too.

Unbearded chicks will have a smooth fluff down their throats and along the sides of their face.
